Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner confessed he always knew he was going to make it into professional football but only realised it when Arsenal and other big clubs approached him to secure his services.
Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, the Danish International explained how the game of football was ultimately just a game when he was young but how things started to change the moment he started to get paid, an amazing feeling at such a young age.
Now 22, the striker is renowned for his self-believe as he explained how one is to be dedicated as well as selfish if he is to make it in the world of professional football as many want to play the game but few are chosen to do it.
The Dane is yet to enjoy regular football with the Gunners this season after losing his place to Marouane Chamakh during a spell on the sidelines because of injury with Denmark’s manage Morten Olsen saying how it is vital for him to be involved with Arsenal if he is to play for the National team.
On his early days, Bendtner said :
For me it was just football and I enjoyed it. When I was 15, it was the first time I started to get paid, getting like 100 pounds a month. It was amazing.
I always knew I was a good player and could progress in football but I didn’t know everything that came with it.
But when Arsenal and all the big clubs came in for me I started to realise.
When you think about it, there’s very very few people who actually make it to where they want to be.
You should think about how many football players are out there and it’s not many who actually make it.
I think it’s dedication and you need to be selfish, it’s a selfish world to get to the top and you got to put anything in your power to get there.
